Mill levies raised for Lincoln County School District

| September 29, 2020 7:00 AM

After the Lincoln County School District received a funding bump from federal coronavirus aid dollars, county commissioners reapproved its mill levies on Sept. 23.

Superintendent Sedaris Carlburg first presented the district’s levies to the commissioners on Sept. 2. The following day, officials with the state Office of Public Instruction notified Carlburg that the district would be receiving an extra $15,065.40 from the national Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.

While Carlburg said the federal dollars will go into the school district’s transportation fund, two of the district’s retirement accounts were boosted indirectly due to the COVID-19 dollars.

The school district’s transportation funds were increased from 5.71 mills on Sept. 2 to 6.03 mills on Sept. 23. This represents a 0.6 mill bump in this fund over fiscal year 2019-2020.

The elementary retirement and high school retirement funds were each boosted by 0.01 mills. Even with this increase, these funds are 1.32 and 0.88 mills less than they were last year.
