Free FASFA workshop at FVCC Lincoln County Campus
Flathead Valley Community College is hosting a free federal financial aid workshop for area college-bound students at its Lincoln County Campus on Oct. 29.
Students and their family members are invited to facility for one-on-one help with applying for federal aid, including with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form, from 2 to 6 p.m.
Officials with the community college described completing the financial aid package, which is better known by its acronym, FASFA, as one of the most important steps students can take in the lead up to college.
“It is the starting point for financial aid, including federal loans and grants, scholarships and work-study,” officials said in a statement.
To take on the application, students and their families must have first secured their Federal Student Aid identification, which can be obtained at fsaid.ed.gov. Students under the age of 24 will need at least one parent to secure identification prior to the event.
Other necessary information includes: Social Security numbers; 2019 federal income tax returns; W-2 forms; tribal income or information on other aid, like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families or child support; and financial asset information pertaining to items like money market funds and stocks, for example.
The priority date for filing FASFA for most schools in Montana is Dec. 1. Students planning on attending out-of-state schools should contact those institutions for information about deadlines.
