| December 11, 2020 7:00 AM

Whitefish Mountain Resort opens for the winter ski season today with seven lifts operating and 35 inches of snow at the summit.

According to a Wednesday afternoon report from resort, chairs 1, 5, 6, 7, 11, Big Foot T-Bar and Magic Carpet will be open today.

Toni Matt, Bench Run, Ptarmigan Bowl, Big Face, North Bowl, and Inspiration Ridge to No Name will be open for frontside skiing. Russ’s Street will be closed below Chair 5 until 2:30 p.m.

On the backside, everything at Flower Point and T-Bar will be open as well as everything leading to Chair 7, except for George’s Gorge.

East Rim and all trails to chair 5 will be open (careful of early-season conditions)

In the base area, Barn Dance, lower Huckleberry and the Magic Carpet will be open. Chipmunk will not be open.

The village area only has a 6-inch settled base and snow-making is underway.

Skiers are advised to be aware of early-season conditions and unmarked hazards, and to stay out of closed terrain.

As a precaution, face coverings are required to be worn in lift lines, when loading and unloading the chair, indoor areas, and anywhere social distancing cannot be met.
