Who said Friday the Thirteenth is unlucky?

Sabrina Spiger makes a single Montana Lottery purchase once a week. She buys “The Works,” which for less than $20, gets her one of every Montana Lottery lotto game the lottery sells.

“I usually win my money back,” she said.

Sometimes she’ll buy a Scratch ticket. This summer, she bought a handful of the Win Big and Go! Scratch ticket and on a whim decided to enter the Second Chance drawing for a Winnebago Micro Minnie travel trailer – a 21-footer with everything the camper the needs.

Spiger wasn’t thinking of the Winnebago, or the Montana Lottery - or winning anything for any reason, really - when she came out of a cell service dead zone on Aug. 31 and her phone lit up.

“I’m getting all these pings on my phone,” said Spiger, of Libby. And all of them are saying: Congratulations!

One of Spiger’s Win Big and Go! Second Chance drawing entries was the winner. She and her husband, Richard, drove down to Great Falls on Friday to claim their prize, which had been shipped to the Pierce RV Supercenter there.

Spiger was riding in the car when she found out she won. She told her husband, who was driving and didn’t know she had even entered a drawing to win a Winnebago, that she thought they had won a 21-foot travel trailer.

Honestly, it was so unlikely it almost seemed like a scam, Spiger said, adding that they weren’t completely sure they had really won until they were sitting with Lottery officials in Helena discussing the details of getting the trailer delivered to them.

It didn’t take them long to adjust to their new reality.

“We’re going camping tonight!” Spiger said.
