With win, Lady Loggers head to divisionals
The Lady Loggers played their way into the divisional tournament with a Nov. 4 win against Ronan, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16. Despite the high pressure situation, the Loggers finished strong to prove they deserved to play in Dillon.
The match started out blazing when Olivia Smith fired a kill in the first game point. The energy faded in the second game when the Loggers gave up the game to Ronan.
It was back and forth action between the Maidens and the Loggers in the third game, but Libby came out on top. The Loggers closed the match in game four with plenty of momentum to take them into divisional play.
McKenzie Proffitt was across the board in stats for the night. Proffitt had three aces, nine kills and two blocks.
Also on fire at the net, Sheyla Gallagher had nine kills for the Loggers.
Kylee Quinn finished with 34 of the 35 set assists for the Loggers.
Ashlyn Monigold brought her dig game with 18 digs for the Loggers. Julia Martineau added 13 digs to the overall 49.
With the play-in win against Ronan, the Loggers face No. 1-seeded Corvallis.
“Corvallis has a lot of tall girls that can block and hit well,” said head coach Samantha Hannah. “We have been focusing on open spots to get past their block.”
Hannah added that the Loggers spent the week honing their serving game. The Loggers had 20 missed serves against Stevensville last Friday and lost. They had six missed serves against Ronan and won.
“All the games that we have lost have been mainly because of having over 15 missed serves,” Hannah said. “If we can keep control of the ball on our side and get through their weaknesses and keep the serve, we will go far at divisionals.”
The Loggers (5-8) played Corvallis (14-1) on Thursday, Nov. 7 and fell in three games, 13-25, 15-25, 21-25. They play again in the loser bracket against Dillon (7-9) on Nov. 8 at 10 a.m.
