Birds of the Yaak essay contest
The Yaak Valley Forest Council is, with the kind generosity of Livingston poet Marc Beaudin, sponsoring a Suggest-A-Poem contest for Troy, Libby and Yaak area students.
Marc has offered to read requests from students about which bird in the Yaak Valley they would like to have a poem written, and why. The bird described in the winning essay will be the subject of a new poem.
One-page, persuasive essays nominating a student’s bird of choice are due by Saturday, May 25, and can be sent to Shawna Kelsey at shawna@yaakvalley.org.
Mr. Beaudin will be visiting the YVFC’s annual meeting on Saturday, June 8 at the old Sylvanite School, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mr. Beaudin will be available to meet with the winning student(s) at the meeting.
Marc Beaudin is a poet, theatre artist and bookseller.
His latest book, “Vagabond Song”, was called “a jazzy, freewheeling, rollicking road trip into the beating heart of the Eternal Now” by Montana Quarterly.
