Libby track and field is ready for divisional
After their performance at the Nelson-Thomas ABC Track Meet Saturday, the Libby High School track and field team’s coach said they are ready for divisionals.
“All of our questions have been answered,” Libby Head Coach Jim May said by email.
Sophomore David Patterson won the junior varsity high jump with a personal record 5 feet, 10 inches, beating his previous personal best by 4 inches. He also had a personal record 12.4 seconds in the 100 meter dash.
Senior Isabella Hollingsworth had two personal records, finishing third in the 100 meter hurdles with a personal best 17.22 seconds and improving her state seed time, and reaching 8 feet in the pole vault.
Fellow senior Mikalyn Zeiler also had a personal record in the pole vault, with a 7-foot vault.
Hollingsworth’s pole vault put her in the Libby High School top 10, May said.
Junior Keith Johnson held at 6 feet in the high jump and established a season-best distance in the triple jump, taking first place with 41 feet.
“He competed well,” May said.
Sophomore Olivia Gilliam-Smith had personal records in two events, finishing fourth in the 400 meter dash with 1:02.66, and third in the long jump with 16 feet, 7.5 inches.
“Both our girls’ and boys’ short relays killed their season bests with the boys qualifying for State in it,” May said.
For the boys 4x100 meter relay, senior Eli Gilliam-Smith, sophomore Jay Beagle, senior Colten Celmons and freshman Kaleb Folk came in third with 44.79 seconds.
On the girls 4x100 meter relay, freshman Madison Caruthers, Gilliam-Smith, Hollingsworth and senior Emma Gruber finished third with 52.11 seconds.
There were several other personal records as well for Libby.
Beagle finished second in the 200 meter dash with a personal record of 22.63 seconds.
Senior Will O’Connell had a personal record 2:22.8 in the 800 meter run, and a personal best of 5:16.81 in the 1,600 meter run.
Freshman Lucky Martin also performed well at distance, setting a personal record of 5:31.93 in the 1,600 meter run, and followed by freshman Dawson Rose with a personal record of 5:38.93.
Senior Lauren Thorstenson had a season-best time of 6:03.32 in the 1,600 meter run.
Senior Zoie Spady set a new personal record in the javelin, reaching 89 feet, 11 inches.
In the junior varsity competition Saturday, freshman Auden Williamson won the shot put with a 37-foot, 8.5-inch throw.
Sophomore Savanna Sanderson took first place in the junior varsity long jump with a personal record of 14 feet, 8.5 inches. She took second place in the junior varsity triple jump with a personal record 31 feet, 3.5 inches as well, and had a personal record 14.82 seconds in the junior varsity 100 meter dash.
In the junior varsity triple jump, freshman Trey Anderson set a personal record, reaching 32 feet.
Freshman Krystal Pena took second place in the junior varsity 100 meter dash with a personal-record 14.63 seconds.
In the junior varsity 800 meter run, sophomore Halona LaFleur set a season record with 2:57.02.
Zeiler won the junior varsity 1,600 meter run in 6:17.78, and LaFleur had a season best in the same event with 6:35.46.
LaFleur also had a personal record in the junior varsity pole vault, winning the event with a 7-foot vault.
The Western Divisional Meet is Friday and Saturday in Butte, and the top-10 placers and all state qualifiers will move on to the State Meet the following weekend in Laurel.
