Libby student heading to State Spelling Bee

Libby Elementary School fifth grade student Isaac Lamere won the Lincoln County Spelling Bee on Feb. 20 in Eureka.

Lamere outspelled 21 other contestants from schools across Lincoln County, and will now represent Lincoln County at the State Spelling Bee in Billings on Saturday, March 16.

Lamere correctly spelled “attenuated” and his championship word “redundancy” to win the county title.

Other contestants from Libby Public Schools included: Leah Rusdal and Colter Anderson, fourth grade; Cole Petty, fifth grade; Charlie Weber and Karma Laveway, sixth grade; as well as Sam Brumbaugh, Raevynn Voss and Peyton Geer from Libby Middle School.

During the competition, the students spelled words such as: guava, penitent, cherished, sturgeon, damask, gangrene, hibiscus, pegasi, vocational, eclair, mutton chops, consonants, inertia, haberdashery, piedmont, portentously, gaiters, and emaciated.

Libby Public Schools extended a hearty “Congratulations” to Lamere and his teacher, Jessica Thoeny.
