High School Students Can Earn Free College Credits at FVCC This Summer

Flathead Valley Community College’s Summer Experience program offers high school juniors and seniors from across Montana the opportunity to earn free college credits during the month of July. The five-week program runs Monday through Wednesday beginning July 1 and concluding July 31.

All first-time Summer Experience students take College 101, a one-credit course that focuses on career exploration, collegiate expectations and experiential learning activities, including community service and river rafting in Glacier National Park.

Returning Summer Experience students take Financial Literacy for College, a one-credit course that focuses on college and financial planning. The course provides pre-collegiate students with financial success strategies for college and information about college costs, financial aid and scholarship application processes. Students participate in community service learning and experiential activities and evaluate how their personal values may impact their college and financial choices. Students also create a professional resume and write a mock scholarship/college admissions essay.

In addition to College 101 or Financial Literacy for College, all students choose from a selection of morning courses that meet Monday through Wednesday. The morning courses range from three to four credits and include general education requirements such as Introduction to Interpersonal Communication, American History, Introduction to Native American Studies, College Writing I and more.

Space is limited, and classes fill on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no cost to register, but students are required to commit to participating in all five weeks of the program.

To apply for Summer Experience, students submit an application for admission and a registration form with required signatures. Some students may also need to take placement tests prior to enrolling in courses.
