Libby Public Schools offer free meals for youths

The Libby Public School District is feeding children ages 0 to 18 breakfast and lunch for free this summer as a part of a yearly Summer Food Service Program.
Libby Public School Superintendent Craig Barringer said the meal program is an opportunity for children to come in and eat, especially those that may be food insecure.
It is to make sure children are eating throughout the summer, he said.
The program, running from now through August 1, offers free meals Mondays through Thursdays at the Asa Wood lunchroom in Libby.
They are balanced meals, open to anyone, Barringer said.
Even if a parent is just driving through town, they can stop by and feed their children.
The food comes from the United States Department of Agricultures’s Child Nutrition Program.
Throughout the summer, the program averages about 40 children coming by for meals every day, he said.
Children can grab breakfast from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Adults are also welcome, but must pay $3 for breakfast and $4.25 for lunch.

Barringer said the goal is to provide meals for children that may not get them otherwise.
