CPMC donates microscope to KVCS

Cabinet Peaks Medical Center rounded out 2018 with an equipment donation to Kootenai Valley Christian School.

According to a press release from Cabinet Peaks, the laboratory department donated an Olympus Pathologist Grade Microscope to KVCS. The microscope allows for images to be displayed on a computer to make it easier to share results with students.

KVCS Administrator Ruthanne Dolezal said by email that the school is grateful for the donation, which will be used by the school’s upper level students.

David Iliff, the 7th through 12th grade science teacher, and his students, “were thrilled to discover the incredible capabilities of this new piece of equipment for our Science Department,” Dolezal said.

“The donated microscope opens up new levels of intricate study for our students and expands their opportunities for intriguing scientific exploration,” she said.

According to the press release from Cabinet Peaks, the microscope was donated as part of the hospital’s equipment upgrade program.

“With upgrades always being needed in the healthcare field, it is important that the old equipment does not go to waste,” the release states. “In the past, the CPMC Laboratory Department has donated to other schools in the district, and they have plans to continue to donate and support the education of our local youth whenever possible.”

Roger Riddle, the Cabinet Peaks Laboratory Department Manager, is quoted in the release.

“This is another way CPMC can give back to our community as well as hopefully pique the interest of students to learn more about the science and healthcare fields,” Riddle said. “Maybe someday they can return home and carry on the CPMC tradition of taking good care of our community.”
