Cabinet Peaks, Libby Schools coordinate student training

Two Libby High School seniors recently began their internships with the Cabinet Peaks Medical Center.

Libby seniors Jayden Winslow and Zoie Spady will be participating in the ninth semester of the Medical Mentorship Program coordinated between Libby High School and Cabinet Peaks.

The program has been a tremendous success and has helped 34 local students earn a course credit, as well as real world experience in the healthcare arena, according to a Cabinet Peaks press release.

The hope for the program was that this experience will foster students’ interests in a health-related career field.

The mentorship is an 18-week, semester-long opportunity for high school seniors. Interested students are required to submit an application and go through a formal interview process.

The seniors who were chosen for this semester will spend two class periods per day at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center, according to the release. While at Cabinet Peaks, they will be evaluated on a list of qualities that are important for anyone who wants to succeed in the workplace, such as organization, flexibility, attitude, ability to follow directions and punctuality in the workplace.

Winslow will intern in the Imaging and Pharmacy departments and Spady will be in the Nursing Division.

Kate Stephens, Marketing Manager at Cabinet Peaks, is thrilled to give back to our local youth, according to the press release.

Stephens stated that the hope of Cabinet Peaks is that the program will inspire future students to choose careers in healthcare.
