Playground planned in teacher's memory

Fellow educators hope to memorialize beloved local teacher Judy Graham’s memory in a new playground at Libby Elementary School.

Graham, 55, died Nov. 23 following complications from a heart attack. The longtime educator was well known for her dedication to students and tireless support of the Libby Loggers.

Shortly after her death, colleagues began brainstorming a way to preserve Graham’s memory in Libby. The group came up with the idea of a playground and quickly received the family’s approval.

Supporters hope to raise $70,000 for the project. They are accepting donations through the nonprofit Friends and Family.

Tax deductable donations can be dropped off at Fjelstad Accounting, Libby Elementary School, Libby High School, Plummer Center and the Libby School District Superintendent’s Office. Donors who give more than $500 will have their names displayed at the playground.

To help raise funds, Helen Wickham will offer a gift-wrapping service at Cabinet Mountain Brewery from noon to 4 p.m. every Sunday in exchange for donations. Camp Creek Coffee will send $3 of every $10 bag of coffee, if purchased through Amber Elliott or the Libby Elementary School, to the project.
