Cabinet Peaks Clinic welcomes new provider

| August 20, 2019 1:13 PM

Cabinet Peaks Clinic General Surgery recently hired nurse practitioner Nicole “Niki” Bothman to the practice.

Bothman was raised in Northwest Montana and graduated from Flathead High School in Kalispell. She started working in health care when she was 18 years old as a physical therapy aide while studying pre-nursing at Flathead Valley Community College. In 2013, she received a bachelor of nursing degree from Montana State University and elected to pursue her passion for rural health care by returning to Lincoln County as a registered nurse at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital, which is now Cabinet Peaks Medical Center. She spent six years working in various departments as a registered nurse including acute care, informatics, and the emergency department while continuing her education.

In 2015, Bothman received a health care informatics certificate from Montana Tech and went on to be part of the clinical build team for large electronic health record project at Cabinet Peaks. She elected to return to Montana State University for graduate school in 2016 and received her doctor of nursing practice in the spring of 2019. Her graduate thesis focused on emergency management of critical conditions in the rural setting. Additionally, Bothman has worked with the Flathead Valley Community College Lincoln County Campus nursing department as a clinical resource nurse and says she has enjoyed being part of building a strong foundation for future nurses.

“I have always enjoyed the outdoor opportunities that Northwest Montana has to offer. While in undergraduate nursing school, I developed a passion for rural healthcare and elected to start my nursing career in a rural medical facility,“ stated Bothman. “As a former resident of Troy (my mom was a physical therapist for St. John’s in the ‘90s), I was familiar with the area and knew it would continue to offer me the same great recreational opportunities and lifestyle I desired while starting my nursing career. My favorite part of the area is the accessibility to outdoor recreational opportunities.”

In her spare time, Bothman enjoys hiking, paddle-boarding, kayaking, skiing, hunting, fishing, soccer, travel, home design, and dogs. She is married with a stepson and four dogs.
