Harold Stanton

| April 2, 2019 4:00 AM

Our loving father and husband, Harold Stanton, went to his heavenly home on March 23, 2019 with his family by his side. Harold lived a very interesting life to the age of 87.

Harold was born to Ray O. Stanton and Erma-McKinney Stanton at the family ranch in Brusette, Montana, on Jan. 22, 1932. He joined the U.S. Army on his birthday in 1953. He was stationed in Germany in C Battery, 690th Field Artillery Battalion as a cannoneer during the Korean War.

Harold held many occupations throughout his life, from delivering mail on horseback to ranching, farming, USFS, logging industry, mining and working as a bartender manager of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5514 canteen. He joined the VFW in 1953, and became a life member to Post 5514 in 1977, remaining a member for over 65 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping with friends and playing pool in a league. He loved to dance.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Frances Stanton; son Rick Bragg and wife Tammy of Troy, son Roy Stanton and wife Teela of Troy, daughter Billie Jo Brue and special friend Larry Akkerman of Troy. Harold had a great pleasure in having two grandchildren, Eric and Lyric Stanton; three step-grandchildren, Owen Erickson, Steven Erickson and Bryant Stumpf; and one step great-granddaughter Viora Erickson.

Services for Harold will be with full military honors at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 13, at the Milnor Lake Cemetery. A reception will follow at the VFW Post 5514 hall on Yaak Avenue in Troy. Everyone who knew him is welcome.
