The Troy High School football team is looking forward to a strong showing for their homecoming game tonight against the Seely-Swan Blackhawks.

The Trojans are 0-7 for the season, but focused on the progress they have made against some tough opponents, such as during their 62-14 loss to the 6-1 Charlo Vikings last Friday.

“They’re really good. Their quarterback is the best player I’ve ever seen in any level of playing or coaching,” said Troy Head Coach Luke Haggerty.

Still, the Trojans came out to outscore the Vikings 14-8 in the second half.

“Granted, it was obviously against their JV, but stuff like that’s always a win for sure,” Haggerty said.

With the Blackhawks tonight for homecoming and Plains a week from now at home, Haggerty said he thinks the Trojans have a good chance to end the season well.

“I think they’re winnable games. If we play like we can, we should have a win in both of those games,” he said.

The 2-5 Blackhawks will be coming off a 94-50 loss at Clark Fork, a team that took beat Troy 54-0.

“Hopefully we can show up to play against them. If we do, it should be a fun game,” Haggerty said.

The team has been staying motivated in practice, working hard and working on new plays, he said.

“They’re having fun,” he said. “It should be a good game. We’re all excited for it.”

The Trojans will have sophomore defensive back Ben McCann returning to the field for the homecoming game.

“He’s pretty good. He’s a good tackler,” Haggerty said.

And to the Troy advantage will be their quarterback situation.

Haggerty said that he isn’t sure who he will start tonight, because he has to choose between two equally-strong quarterbacks, senior Cody Osterberg and junior Terren Winebark.

“We’re having to decide out of two pretty solid guys. It’s a great problem to have,” he said.

And if needed, the team even has a third good option in junior Ricki Fisher, Haggerty said. “He’s playing running back for us now, because he’s got some speed.”

“We’re looking good though,” he said. “I just really want to go out on a strong note for these seniors.

I think that’d be a lot of fun.”
