The nonprofit, all-volunteer Kootenai Pets for Life is a no-kill shelter founded in 2001 to provide a home for stray and abandoned pets of the Libby/Troy area. In addition to providing shelter, the organization assists with spay and neuter services, foster care, veterinary assistance and education.

Since its inception, Kootenai Pets for Life has adopted out over 3,500 pets and helped spay or neuter over 8,000 pets and over 745 feral cats. Since microchipping was started in 2012, over 750 pets have been implanted for easy identification.
