The Troy High School Football Team took a 74-12 loss to the Darby Tigers Friday.

Junior Kolton Lewis and senior Hunter Leighty scored the Trojan’s only two touchdowns of the game, both in the first half.

Troy Head Coach Luke Haggerty said by email that the loss represented a step back for the Trojan defense over a week ago, when they lost 54-0 against Clark Fork. The first half, during which the Tigers scored 50 points, may have had Troy’s worst defensive half so far this season.

“We picked it up in the second half and Dylan Peterson really led the charge. He’s a warrior who literally flipped the switch at halftime and had a really good half,” Haggerty said.

The Trojans started off tied 6-6 against Darby, Haggerty said. “Offensively we were moving the ball really well.”

But Troy lost senior quarterback Cody Osterberg early in the first quarter, he said. “Cody was having his best game of the season and had 98 yards and a touchdown when he went down.”

Still, when Troy junior Terren Winebark came in to replace Osterberg, he threw a touchdown in the second quarter for the Trojans.

“It was only his second time playing (quarterback) in a game and he did a great job of keeping his composure in a tough spot,” Haggerty said.

This Friday, the Trojans travel to an away game at Charlo, which Haggerty said he anticipates will be a tough competition.

But, he sees potential for Troy in the home games scheduled for the following last two games at home, including the homecoming game against Seely Swan on Friday, Sept 12 and their matchup against Plains on Thursday, Sept. 18.

“If the team keeps working hard, we have a chance to compete in both of our remaining home games,” he said.
