Phyllis Joanne McDonald

Phyllis Joanne McDonald, 82, passed away at her home in Libby on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018. Phyllis was born to the late George and Bernice McNulty on January 8, 1936. The oldest of twelve children, Phyllis was born and raised in Fergus Falls, Minn., and later moved with her family to Troy, Mont.

Phyllis was adored and loved by all who knew her. She was affectionately called “Nana” by her grandchildren and “Nanny with the Fanny” by her devoted husband,

David. She was always active and enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking. She was the go-to person asked to bake incredible wedding cakes for friends and family. Phyllis was an amazing, kind and hardworking wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be dearly missed by all.

Phyllis is preceded in death by Fred Johnson after 44 years of marriage, her daughter Cheryl Johnson, and her brothers Wallace McNulty and Timothy McNulty.

Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 19 years, David; her daughter Teresa Trego and son Gary Johnson; her stepdaughters Julie Volknand and Kim (Michael) Strawbridge; her grandchildren Cara Trego, Jerald (Brandy) Trego, Jennifer (Michael) Sovitsky, and Brian Trego; her sisters Ellen Adkins, Jean Jellesed, Mary (Walt) Stephenson, Beverly (Chris) Freese, Susan (Rick) Byrd, Carol Eggers and Colleen McNulty; her brothers Jim (Bobbie) McNulty and Roger McNulty. Phyllis will also be forever remembered by her seven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Libby American Legion. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg Funeral Home in Libby. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
