Libby 2018 signings and Fall Sports Awards
On Wednesday, Libby HighSchool seniors Ryggs Johnston and Alli Collins signed with colleges.
Johnston will play golf at Arizona State University and Collins will play volleyball at Dickinson State University in Dickinson, North Dakota.
At the Fall Sports Awards assembly at Libby High School on Thursday, athletes were honored for academic and athletic acheivement, including both team and state awards.
The school recognized 64 student athletes for receiving Academic All State, which requires them to maintain a 3.5 GPA while lettering in a Montana High School Association sanctioned sport.
The state honors for the Libby football team were also announced publicly for the first time at the assembly.
Retiring Libby volleyball Head Coach Cindy Ostrem Johnston -- the Northwest A Coach of the Year for volleyball -- was also recognized for her 32 years coaching, 29 of them at Libby. Ostrem-Johnston’s record for conference games up to state level from 1993 to the present is 333-190.
Her tenure coaching included eight first and seven second place conference titles, three years as district champions and one in second of the four years for the Northwest A, nine Divisional Champion years, three years in second and three years in third place.
She has also coached the Loggers to the State Championship Tournament eight years, taking the State Championship once, second place three times, third place once and fourth place three times.
