Registration open for wolf trapping certification class

Registration is open for a free wolf trapping education and certification class next month in Kalispell.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will hold the class on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the FWP Region 1 Headquarters at 490 N. Meridian in Kalispell.

This one-time certification is required for anyone who sets traps for wolves in Montana. Individuals who have been certified in previous years do not need to retake the class.

In addition to specifics on equipment and techniques, participants will learn about the history, ethics, management, regulations, and requirements of wolves and wolf trapping. The class will be taught in a rotating-station format and will include outdoor stations. Students should pack warm clothing and a lunch.

The trapping season for wolves is Dec. 15 to Feb. 28, 2019.
