Carolyn S. McBride
Carolyn S. McBride, 86, died of natural causes on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at her home in Libby. She was born on June 2, 1931 on Cape Cod in Massachusetts to Oscar and Mary (nee Bunker) Simpson.
She graduated from the University of Maine in 1953 and received a Bachelor of Science Home Economics degree. She was a homemaker, and also tutored individual students as well as teaching in local schools as a substitute teacher.
She moved to Libby in 1953, with her husband John, and helped build their house. Together, they raised children, taught hunter safety for 40 years, and worked on the family land “The Walker Tract” in Troy.
Carolyn was devoted to her family, and welcomed countless people, including ones from other lands, into their home. She was an accomplished cook and a gifted seamstress, sewing clothes for family and friends. She loved making quilts and was honored as Quilter of the Year by the Kootenai Quilt Guild.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 65 years, John K McBride; her mother, Mary Simpson; her stepmother, Myrtie Simpson; her father, Oscar Simpson, MD; and an infant son, Jeffry Gordon.
Survivors include sister Ellen Griffee of Annadale, Virginia; daughters Dorothy McBride and Karyn Larsen of Libby and Janet Kvernvik of Petersburg, Alaska; son John S. McBride of Redmond, Oregon; grandchildren including Jeremy Bowker, Taska Larsen, Amber Larsen, Kaylee Hammond, Keegan McBride, Carolyn Kvernvik and Adanna Kvernvik; great-grandchildren including Ariana Hammond, Aidan Hammond, Kenly McBride, Kai McBride and Jaxson Bowker. She also leaves many good friends and her beloved dog, Corky.
Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby. A family celebration of life for both Carolyn and her husband, John, will be held in July, 2018 in Troy at the family cabin.
In lieu of flowers, Carolyn’s family asks that you share a great meal and lots of laughter with family and friends, and maybe with someone who needs a friend.
