Russell Duane Remp

| May 22, 2018 4:00 AM

Russell Duane Remp, 60, was called home early by the Lord, May 16, 2018 at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center. He was with his loving wife and surrounded by his family. He was born to Ray and Iris on Feb. 11, 1958 in Libby, the third of six children.

Russ and Kathy (Swing) found love in the early years of high school and were married on Sept. 6, 1980 in the Christ Lutheran Church in Libby. They have been together for more than 40 years.

Russ worked for his grandpa haying, taking care of cattle and Christmas treeing. During his high school years, he also worked for Pioneer Sports and then worked for St. Regis.

For a time, prior to going to work for Remp Sand and Gravel, he enjoyed logging with Paul Tisher, Paul Brown, Jerry Bennett and Randy Carlson for Taylor Logging, TBC Timber and Dan Halsey Logging. In 1995, Russ and his brother Ron bought the business from their parents, Ray and Iris, which they ran together. After Ron’s passing 10 years ago, Russ and Kathy have continued to run the business along with their sons Shane and Tyler, and the help of the Remp Sand and Gravel crew: Eric, John, Dave, Dan and Annie. Each of them has a very special place in Russ’s heart. It has been a true family business in the Libby community for over 40 years.

In previous years, Russ was avid in motorcycle riding in the pit, and racing snowcats with Remp’s Polaris Racing Team along with his brothers, family and friends. Everything Russ did was centered around family, especially his brothers. Some of his proudest moments were teaching and watching his boys race motorsports while following in his footsteps.

As good as life was, it was made even better when Shane and Ashlee blessed him with his grandson, Ryker; they all made his family complete. Ryker is the sunshine of his life. It brought him great joy watching his grandson drive his four-wheeler in the backyard as the Remp tradition continues. Russ also enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, trapping and bowling, always with family and friends.

Russ was a man of character, and loved grabbing a wrench and teaching his boys and crew about more than just mechanics. He cherished his family and was a loyal friend to many. He was a man of integrity that was loved greatly by those who knew him. He leaves a legacy in the community of Libby that will never be forgotten.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Iris Remp, and a brother, Ron Remp.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife Kathy; children Tyler Remp and Shane Remp; a grandchild, Ryker Remp, and his mother, Ashlee Legino; siblings Randy (Linda) Remp, Roxanne (John) McCallum, Renee (Al) Schad and Rob (Darla) Remp; numerous loved nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Susan.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Libby Christian Church.
