Lady Trojans fall in softball divisional
The Troy High School softball team faced elimination in back-to-back losses to the number one and number two ranked teams in the southwestern conference during divisional play Friday.
In their first game, the Lady Trojans — with a 2-4 in-conference record — faced the Florence Lady Falcons, who have been undefeated in their conference this year.
Florence dropped a 19-0 win on Troy in a no-run, no-hit shutout.
Moving on to consolation play, the Trojans faced the Loyola-Scared Heart Breakers, a team that went 7-3 in-conference. Troy lost 23-2.
Though the Lady Trojans got seven hits against Loyola’s pitchers, Kayla Hickethier and Charla Goodman, there were no RBIs for Troy.
Their only runs from the initiative of pitcher-catcher duo sophomore Mazzy Hermes and junior Kaylee Tunison.
To start out the top of the third, Hermes hit a double on a line drive to right field. By the time Tunison reached first on a dropped third strike, Hermes was on third.
On the the next pitch, a ball, Hermes made for home and Tunison followed up to third. Tunison scored during the next play on a passed ball, only a single pitch before the strike against freshman Talise Becquart that ended the half inning.
With their defeats at divisional, the Lady Trojan’s season is over. Yet, with no seniors, the entire team is able to return next season, leaving nearly a year to show what kind of improvements they can produce.
