During Libby High School junior varsity’s 17-0 win against Browning, freshman Taylor Holm knocked out three home runs over the course of two innings.

The Libby High School softball team rounded out last week on a four-game shutout streak.

After their 14-0 win against Eureka Tuesday, the Lady Loggers went on to a 14-0 win against Whitefish on Friday, with senior pitcher Khalyn Hageness allowing no hits, no runs and only two walks, all while striking out 10 of the Lady Bulldogs.

As the second batter in the lineup during the first inning, Hageness also hit the double that brought in junior Linsey Walker for the first run scored of the game.

Libby gradually accumulated their lead over the first four innings. Senior Haylee Cannon hit the only triple of the game, a line drive to center field, making one of her two RBIs by bringing in sophomore Ashlyn Monigold.

Libby junior Jayden Winslow brought in the final run of the game, hitting a line drive to left field for a double, and sending sophomore Amaya Borden home.

In their games against Browning, Libby dominated early in both games, and the Browning bats were no match for Hageness’ arm as she once again threw a no-hit, no-run game and made no errors.

Yet, Libby Head Coach Dean Thompson said Browning was also missing around eight players, several from their starting lineup.

“When you miss four girls off your starting roster of nine, that’s a tough thing to do,” he said.

Still, both teams played with all they had, and kept the atmosphere light and friendly, with the coaches for each team taking time to chat and joke with the infielders between coaching their own runners.

“We just respect the girls and their team. You know, the coach is getting them playing better, and they’ll come,” Thompson said. “Give ‘em a couple of years and get their feeder program going.”

“We just hope — we like close games, and we hope that they get better and better,” he said.

Yet, the Lady Loggers kept competitive, and showed Browning the respect of taking them seriously as well.

“You’ve gotta play hard for every game, because you never know,” Thompson said. “Sometimes the ball just doesn’t bounce our way, so, we have to play every inning.”

Regardless how many games they have with multi-point leads, it’s important for the girls not to lose the mindset that any game is a game they could lose, Thompson said.

“Like I said, we have to come into every game like it’s a state championship,” he said.
