Troy track still missing Leighty but powers through KLH
Though only one Troy High School track and field athlete placed in the top five of an event at the KLH Invitational track meet on Saturday, the team members continue to make personal advancements in their events.
For the girls team, sophomore Ella Pierce has maintained her 4 foot, 8 inch high jump, taking fourth place at the invitational. Though Pierce continues to work at improving her jump, she has yet to come in lower since achieving the personal record height at the Whitefish ARM on April 28.
Pierce also set a personal record in the 100m hurdles at the KLH, with 18.42 seconds.
The boys team, which didn’t achieve a team score, may have felt the absence of junior Hunter Leighty, who also sat out the Lincoln County Meet on May 1 due to a muscle injury. Leighty’s previous times for the 400m dash would have placed in the top three at KLH.
Troy freshman Liz Morkeberg did not place high in her events, yet continues to best herself. At the KLH Invitational, she set a personal record in the 100m dash with 15.02 seconds.
Junior Tyler Gromley also made a personal record with a 90 foot, 11 inch discus throw — beating his most recent PR by over 3.5 feet — and junior Michael Beers finished the 200m dash in a personal record 27.66 seconds.
