The Libby High School softball team beat Lincoln County High School 14-0 on Tuesday at Eureka, without a single Lady Lion getting a hit against senior pitcher Khalyn Hageness, and no Eureka player making it past first base.

Despite about two-thirds of Eureka pitcher Avory Escobar’s pitches coming in as strikes, only two of the Lady Loggers struck out, and 13 of their 16 at-bats led to a hit.

In the first inning, the Lady Loggers loaded up the bases with singles, then brought in six runs in four plays, ending with a double from sophomore Sheyla Gallagher.

Play was rapid from the bottom of the first through the second inning. In eleven plays, it was the top of the third and senior Haylee Cannon was up to bat again, hitting a triple on the first pitch. A double from Gallagher on the next play sent Cannon home.

Gallagher scored a run on a pop fly to second base by junior Samantha Miller. But, Escobar shut down the Libby advance with two strikes sandwiching a ground out to Lady Lions shortstop Rylee Morgan by Hageness.

In the bottom of the third, Hageness gave up her second and final walk of the game. It was the only base the Lady Lions were able to take before a pop fly to junior shortstop Jayden Winslow ended the inning.

In the fourth inning, Libby began to rack up the runs again, kicked off by junior Emily Carvey making second base off an error in the Eureka infield, then scoring on a single by junior Sammee Bradeen.

Escobar loaded the bases on walks, hitting Gallagher on the third pitch of her at-bat, and Bradeen scored Libby’s tenth run on a sacrifice fly by sophomore McKenzie Proffit.

After junior Linsey Walker was caught out at second base on a pop fly, Hageness hit a double with the bases still loaded, bringing Cannon and Gallagher home.

Winslow followed with a single on a fly ball to center field, and Miller and Hageness took full advantage of the play, both making it across home plate.

In the bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth, Eureka’s Morgan made it to first on an error and Libby’s Gallagher singled on a line drive to center field, but nether team advanced further. The score was still 14-0 when Libby ended the fifth inning in three plays.
