James Burton Willcut

James “Jim” Burton Willcut, 76, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully at the Schneidmiller Hospice House surrounded by his loving family and devoted wife Twila Willcut on April 22, 2018.

Jim was born on April 26, 1941, in Moorhead, Minnesota to John and Barbara Willcut. Jim was the oldest of eight children. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Dennis (Mike) and Roger (Hippo) Willcut. Jim is survived by his sisters Mary (Trixie) Jensen, Sharon Burns and Barbara (Bitty) Crowell, and brothers Tim (Dubby) & John (Johnny)

Jim was a much-loved son, brother, father, husband, grandpa, uncle and friend. His legacy lives on in his sons Brian Willcut (wife Danielle) of Maple Valley, Washington; Jeff Willcut (wife Sandy) of Lake Tapps, Washington; and daughter Alicia Mills (husband Tony) of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Jim was promoted from “Dad” to grandfather (“Papa” to his grandkids) 29 years ago. His grandchildren are Kaila Spencer, Halie Spencer, Winter Spencer, Ashley Willcut and Ian Willcut. Jim was equally proud of his two great grandchildren, Charlie King Young and Daisy Marie Willcut.

Jim grew up on a small farm in Minnesota and attended Monroe High School in Washington. Jim served in Korea and was a proud member of the U.S. Army. After his military service, he worked in the life insurance, banking, real estate and lending industries.

Jim and Twila met in 1977 and married in 1980. They have been residing in the Coeur d’Alene, Idaho area ever since.

Jim was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather as well as a tremendous friend and confidant to many in the region. Jim owned and managed a successful business in Hayden, Idaho for many years and his prowess in financial planning, lending, asset management and real estate were legendary. When Jim was younger he enjoyed skydiving and later in life when he wasn’t working, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and all things outdoors.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Schneidmiller Hospice House who were so wonderful to Jim and his family when they were needed the most.

Service for Jim will be on Saturday, May 19 at 1 p.m. at St. Pius X Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave., Coeur d’Alene, and a Celebration of Life will be held immediately after at Sargents Restaurant and Lounge at 9021 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID.
