The Lady Trojans had a night of season firsts Thursday against Thompson Falls: the first home run and the first wins.

Junior Tristyn Winebark, who has been away from pitching after an injury, even got some time on the mound, giving sophomore Mazzy Hermes a well-earned rest in the second game of the double header.

Though the games saw many dramatic moments, with errors on both sides leaving runners free to make it home unmolested, sophomore Montana Rice’s home run off of a line drive to left field in the fifth inning was a season-first for the Lady Trojans.

The first game against the Lady Blue Hawks was a last-minute comeback for the Lady Trojans. Thompson Falls lead through the bottom of the fifth inning, when the score was 9-7, Thompson Falls.

But Troy held them from scoring in the sixth and seventh, while batting in more runners in the bottom of the sixth than they had for the preceding five.

In the second game of the night, The Lady Trojans took the lead in the second inning and held it until the fourth. Three runs from Thompson Falls tied the score in the bottom of the fourth, but Troy had re-established their lead, 11-6, in the sixth.

Despite efforts by the Lady Blue Hawks to make back the difference, they were unable to overcome the Lady Trojan lead.

Troy did not fair quite as well in their weekend games against Loyola Sacred Heart and Manhattan on Saturday.

The Breakers came out early with the lead in the morning game, and by the third inning already lead 10-0. The Lady Trojans pushed back in the fourth inning with a line drive from junior Kaylee Tunison that batted in sophomore Montana Rice and freshman Talise Becquart.

But Loyola’s lead could not be broken. They came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning and held Troy at bay in the fifth.

Hermes had a rough morning against the Lady Blue Hawks. Though she only allowed two hits and struck out three, Hermes walked 15 and saw 13 Loyola runners make it home.

Against Manhattan, Troy started out strong, leading 3-2 going into the third inning. But in the top of the third, a Manhattan home run pushed them into the lead 5-3.

Manhattan scored three more runs, and though Becquart made it to third in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Tigers held Troy to zero runs.

A repeat in the fourth inning — but with a triple scoring two runs for Manhattan this time — brought the score to 14-3, Lady Tigers.

The Lady Trojans brushed themselves off in the remaining innings, scoring two runs in the fifth after holding Manhattan back, and answering the Lady Tigers’ four runs in the seventh with three of their own.

The final run for Troy came from a single by junior Cami Finley, sending junior Kenzie Wallace home.

Overall, the Lady Trojans had strong bats, hitting 16-10 over the Lady Tigers, but Manhattan lead in doubles, while making the only triples and home run of the game.

Yet, Hermes had a much better game that afternoon than she did in the morning, pitching all six innings and allowing only six errors and walking six. She nearly doubled the number of strikes she pitched, and struck out four.
