Montana hunters seeking licenses to hunt moose, bighorn sheep or mountain goats this fall have more than six additional hours than regulations state to complete their online applications, according to a news release from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

“Applications for a limited number of licenses to hunt the three species are due May 1 and can be completed online, on paper and mailed to Helena, or over the counter at an FWP office,” the news release states.

Previously published regulations state that applications must be postmarked on or before May 1 or completed online by 5 p.m. the same day.

“Traditionally the online application process has been available to hunters until 11:45 p.m. on the deadline day,” the news release states. “That will be the case again this spring.”

Nonetheless, the agency encourages hunters to apply in advance of the deadline “to avoid any potential for technical hiccups, overcrowded servers, slow connections or unforeseen troubles.”

Hunters can get paper applications and regulations at any Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks office or license provider.

To access an application and regulations online, visit fwp.mt.gov and follow the “hunting” tab.
