Troy’s New Horizons Learning Center after school program is hosting a special nutritional event for families in the W.F. Morrison Elementary Gym on Thursday, March 15, at 5:30 p.m.

Dinner will be provided, with hands-on activities and nutrition-themed games after, including food Bingo, a build-a-meal activity and a nutrition word search, said Jennifer Higgins by email.

Every family will get a soup kit to take home, Higgins said. The kits will include a packet of dried beans, spices and a recipe that students from the after school program have put together.

The event is made possible through the Child and Adult Care Food Program grant, she said. The grant also provides meals every day after school to students involved in sports and the after school program.

New Horizons provides after school programming for kindergarten through 8th grade four days a week from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The program’s mission, “is to provide a safe and healthy after school environment that strengthens academic achievement, encourages social and emotional wellbeing and facilitates family and community involvement,” Higgins said.
