Germaine F. Hugill
Germaine F. Hugill, 91, long-time Libby resident, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Ray Hickey Hospice in Vancouver, Washington. She was born June 18, 1927 in Libby to Bernhard and Marguerite (Kosky) Schlumm.
Germaine was raised in Libby and attended the Libby schools, graduating salutatorian in 1945. In high school, she was involved in many activities, but in particular, drama, orchestra, band and chorus. She had private cello and piano lessons from the age of 8 through college. She especially liked accompanying chorus and small singing groups on the piano.
After high school graduation, Germaine attended Holy Names College in Spokane, Washington. At first a music major, she chose instead to become a primary school teacher. She taught in the Libby school system her entire teaching career, teaching the first, second and third grades.
In 1949, Germaine married Glenn R. Hugill, her high school sweetheart. To this union were born five children. They had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1999. After retirement, they toured Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Scandinavia.
A lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Germaine served for over 60 years in the music ministry at St. Joseph Catholic Church as choir director, liturgist, pianist and organist. Germaine was also a member of Lambda and Alpha Theta Chapters of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of Kootenai Teachers for Education, Senior Citizens and the Red Hats. A supporter of Heritage Council, for several years, Germaine played piano for children musical productions under the direction of Mary Sullivan Reckin.
Germaine was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; son, David; her parents; and brother, Maurice.
Survivors include her daughter Kathryn Sokoloski of Burien, Washington; sons Kent Hugill (Lori) of Denver, Colorado and Stuart Hugill (Ragheda) of Troutdale, Oregon; daughter Sheila Margado (Steve) of Vancouver, Washington; grandchildren Paul Phillips (Lena) of Renton, Washington; Amber Sokoloski Pelham (Justin) of Fife, Washington; Dana Hugill Babik (Jason) of Elliott City, Maryland ; Laura Hugill Clark (Daniel) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Kevin Margado of Tacoma, Washington; Ryan Margado of Seattle, Washington; Kira Swenson of Vancouver, Washington and seven great grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libby. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2018, with Rosary at 7 p.m., at Schnackenberg Funeral Home Chapel in Libby.
