Guy Bundrock

| June 26, 2018 4:00 AM

Guy Bundrock, 78, passed away peacefully at the Montana Veterans Home on June 13, 2018. Guy was born Dec. 11, 1939 to Alberta Mae Gronseth and William John Bundrock, Jr.

Guy and his younger brother Donald Bundrock grew up in Montana’s Flathead and Lincoln counties and graduated from Flathead High School. Guy married Loraine Katherine Measure at St. Matthews Church in Kalispell in 1961. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 to 1959 and from 1960 to 1962 at Camp Pendleton, California, where he was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. Guy and Loraine raised their growing family first at Camp Pendleton and later in Seattle, Washington, in Kalispell and Bozeman (where he attended Montana State University), and the North Shore of Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands.

Over the years, Guy pursued several careers but he was most at home working in the woods as a sawyer, skidder operator and log truck driver. He returned to this career many times but also managed a pool hall, drove trucks for the Zonolite mine, worked as an airplane mechanic, worked at KGEZ Radio, managed a car dealership and supervised a construction crew on the Island of Maui. Guy had a lifelong love for Harley Davidson motorcycles, classic cars (‘57 Chevys and 1960s Mustangs), horses, hunting, music and working with his hands.

He struggled with mental illness beginning in his 30s and was separated from his family while being treated in veterans home hospitals for his illness. Despite this persistent challenge, he continued to live a life rich in experiences and remained a kind and loving man who was dedicated to his family and friends.

He spent much of his later life in Libby to be near his aunt and uncle, Florence and Fay Tischer, as well as his uncle Art, aunt Helen, uncle Don, cousin Dan and many other Bundrocks. He also joined and was an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he made new and valued friends. He moved to the Montana Veterans Home in 2001, where he remained for the rest of his life and the staff came to appreciate his openness and humor.

He is survived by his three children and their spouses — Daren and Jody, Steven and Tamera and Lori and Michelle; grandsons Ayrton, Silas, Atle and Clay; his former wife, Loraine Measure; his cousin Wanda; and numerous other family and friends. His family extends a very heartfelt thank you to all of the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Montana Veterans Home who provided Guy such exceptional care.

Guy will be interred at the Montana Veterans Home Cemetery in Columbia Falls. An informal outdoor memorial gathering is planned for June 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 545 Swan Hill Dr. in Bigfork, Montana. Family and friends who knew and loved Guy are encouraged to attend to celebrate his life.
