Libby City Council on Monday approved the second reading of Ordinance 1916, which revises parts of the city’s parking code.

The ordinance will go into effect 30 days after Monday’s passage.

The changes were primarily in response to several complaints the city received from people who got $50 parking tickets after leaving their cars parked overnight rather than drive drunk.

Restrictions disallowing parking from 2:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. in three areas were removed outright: both sides of Mineral Avenue from 7th Street to First Street; both sides of California Avenue from 7th Street to 2nd Street; and both sides of all streets from 7th Street through 2nd Street between Montana Avenue and Main Avenue.

In addition, language was added to one chapter covering how far vehicles can be parked from curbs, and a redundant section was removed from another chapter.
