Woman killed in Hwy 56 crash

An Oregon woman was killed Friday night in a one-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 56 that also sent a Thompson Falls man to the hospital.

About 6:15 p.m., Kimberly White, 37, of Beaverton, Oregon, was driving a Ford Explorer when it drifted off the left side of the road in a right corner “near the 21.3 mile marker,” according to a written statement from Sgt. Neil Duram of the Montana Highway Patrol.

The Explorer overturned as it re-entered the roadway, and White was ejected.

White died from injuries sustained in the crash. The statement does not give a time of death.

Dustin Fry, 33, of Thompson Falls, was a passenger in the Explorer. He was trapped until he was extricated by emergency personnel, according to the statement.

Fry was flown to Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where he was still being treated Monday.

“Speed appears to be a factor in this crash,” the statement reads. “It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs are also a factor, although blood samples have been gathered and will be tested at the Montana crime lab.”
