Local golfer Ryggs Johnston continues to excel at tournaments around the country.

Johnston competed in his final IMG Academy Junior World Championships in San Diego on July 10-13, taking sixth place — the highest a Montana golfer ever has placed in the tournament.

He tied for 5th out of 212 boys in 15-18 category in the tournament, with the tie broken by matching score cards.

Shooting even par with rounds of 71-72-71-74 on the par-72 course, Johnston was only 4 shots off of the winner in the close tournament.

Johnston also competed in the 101st Western Junior Championships in Skokie, Illinois on June 12-21, placing 8th in a field of 156 for the 15-19 year-old boys category.

With the tournament cut short due to rain, Johnston shot 69-69 on the par 70 course playing at 6,793 yards.
