| July 20, 2018 4:00 AM

Helen Irene (Fickle) Davenport, 91, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where she had lived since 2003. She was born on June 26, 1927, to Lela and John Fickle in Kutch, Colorado, the fourth of 12 children.

Helen grew up in southern Idaho in the Caldwell area. There she met Harold Walton Davenport, whom she married on Aug. 19, 1949. When Harold preceded Helen in death on March 10, 2004, they had been married 55 years.

They adopted Craig Walton Davenport — whose birth mother, Joanne Iredale, was originally from Canada — on March 11, 1960. Harold, Helen and Craig lived in Caldwell, Idaho before moving to Libby in September 1962, where Harold worked for the J. Neils Lumber Mill, later known as the St. Regis Lumber Mill, for 20 years.

Helen was a long time Cub Scouts Den Mother in the 1960s and worked at St John’s Hospital from June 25, 1980 until retiring in 1991, for a total of 11 years. Helen also worked on an election board for Lincoln County and served as a juror in court. She had a passion for baking cookies and was recognized in Kootenai Health Magazine for the eight years she baked cookies for Walden House.

Helen enjoyed spending time with Marie Ackley and Lois Jungst, her two good friends from St. John’s Hospital in Libby. She had primarily been a housewife to Harold and a mother to Craig most of her time in

Caldwell and Libby.

Helen is survived by her son, Craig of Spokane, Washington; three sisters — Ruth (John) Masten of Hayden, Idaho, Bonnie Prunty of Sacramento, California, and Claudia Reno of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; one brother, Duke (Lyn) Fickle of Spokane, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen was laid to rest on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Coeur d’ Alene Memorial Gardens in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements.
