Donald Wells Belcher

Donald Wells Belcher, 89, of Rising Sun, Maryland, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018, at Christiana Hospital surrounded by his family after a short illness.

Born in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, Donald was the son of the late Arnold and Mary Elizabeth (Wells) Belcher. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army and the Merchant Marines. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he also attended the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad in Saskatoon, SK Canada. He became an Episcopal Priest serving in Montana and Maryland from 1995 until his retirement in 2009.

Lifework included Smith Kline (Glaxo), Wagner, Wheat First Butcher and Singer. He loved parish ministry, poetry, flying airplanes, riding motorcycles after 50, squash at Merion, sailing in Maine and on the Amatuk, and his German wirehaired pointers, Scout and Pax.

Donald was predeceased by his brothers Edward “Ted” Belcher and William, Cameron and Robert Bradley.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Gloria (Racine) Belcher; four daughters; three step-daughters; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church at 105 N. Bridge Street, Elkton, MD 21921, where friends are invited to visitation after 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
