Charles O'Neil Berget

Charles O’Neil Berget passed away on Dec. 6, 2018 in Libby, surrounded by his loving family at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center.

He was born on April 2, 1937, in Turtle Lake, N.D., to Ranold and Clarissa Berget.

After serving in the Army National Guard, Charlie married Janice Johnson. They had three children Anthony (Tony), Todd, and Tawndi.

The young family came to Libby in 1965. Charlie had many jobs in the timber industry including working on logging sites, driving logging truck and spending more than 25 years with St. Regis/Champion working in various parts of the mill.

Work was Charlie’s hobby. So in his spare time, he enjoyed developing property and became a well driller. He loved all the challenges and problem solving that came with well drilling. He seemed to find a sense of satisfaction in helping people get their well established. This was the career he could never really retire from.

Charlie’s family will always cherish his very generous spirit. He was always ready to help someone in need, whether it was by providing work to someone down on his luck, or plowing the neighbors out in winter. He was always willing to help.

But the absolute joy of Charlie’s life were his eight grandchildren. He loved to tease them with nicknames and outrageous ideas. His grandchildren also adored their grandfather and have many stories of grandpa’s adventures and misadventures.

We will all miss his mischievous sense of humor and unconditional love.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Janice, his children and inlaws: Tony (Tricia), Todd (Donna), and Tawndi (Zak), DeAnna; grandchildren Trista, Charlie, Kody, Dylan, Annie, Kacie, Halle, and Kate; siblings Rueben, Russell, Roselyn, Larry, Corrine, Mary Ann, and Ronnie, and many neighbors and friends.

The family asks that this Christmas you provide an act of unexpected kindness for someone in memory of Charlie.

A Celebration of Life will be held Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Libby. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg Funeral Home in Libby. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
