New Logger soccer coach has eye on progress

The Libby High School boys soccer team has a new coach this year, and he has his sights on building not just the team in front of him, but the program as well.

Head Coach Jeff Zwang, who played on the team in high school, said that he and his players are still getting to know each other at this point in the season. Going into their 10-0 loss to Stevensville Yellowjackets last Saturday, they only had a couple weeks of practice behind them.

“It’s a work in progress,” Zwang said. “There’s a bit of a learning curve for these guys getting to know me, for me getting to know them, and we’re working on a lot of things.”

Both Zwang and his players are working to “figure each other out,” and build the cohesion and teamwork they need, he said. They are also working on individual and team skills.

“They’re looking good,” Zwang said of his players.

“They’re putting in a lot of good work, but we still have a long ways to go in terms of development,” he said. “It might be a difficult season, but we’re hoping to just keep improving and keep working on things.”

Both the team and the program are a work in progress, Zwang said. At this level of the game, the goal is to see improvement across the board.

“Everything needs to be worked on, but some areas, sometimes, more than others,” he said. “We’re identifying those areas -- both as individual players and as a group -- where we need to focus our attention a little bit and striving to improve.”

The Loggers are scheduled to play the Park at Libby at 4 p.m. on Friday, and the Belgrade at 10 a.m. Saturday.
