LeRoy E. Corning (Smed) was born on July 20, 1935, and passed away peacefully in his sleep on Aug. 2, 2018, at his home on Angel Island, Bull Lake, near Troy.

Born in Hood River, Oregon, to George and Marie Corning, LeRoy attended Billings Sr. High School, class of 1954. He continued his secondary education at the University of Montana, “Go, Griz,” where he was a proud Phi Delta and earned his bachelor’s degree in business, graduating in 1958. LeRoy served four years in the reserves and two years active duty in the Navy on the U.S.S. Pine Island.

On Dec. 28, 1959, LeRoy married the love of his life, Cara Lou Boggess, in Libby. He then started his career at J. Neils Lumber Company. His career continued with St. Regis and Champion lumber companies. He retired Oct. 1, 1996, as western regional sales manager.

LeRoy enjoyed golfing, fishing, taking care of his lawn, loving his family, friends and anyone he met, especially his beloved Denver Broncos! He was a constantly busy man as we all know, particularly the last few years as an Angel Island Community Association board member.

LeRoy is survived by his children, Blake, Turis and Callan (Matt); grandchildren Steven (Megan), Taylor (DJ), Gabby and Payton; his sister Connie Harrison; nephew Chris (Nancy); niece Nancy (Mark) McDonald; great-nephews Clinton (Leslie) Harrison and Michael (Vanessa) McDonald; great-niece Marie McDonald; cousin Jeri (Steve) Munyan and their children, Jenni(Glen) Pennington, Drew (Amanda) Munyan and Darcy Munyan; and all their children. He is also survived by his “Sweetie” of 10 years, Suzi Palin, and her sons Shell, Curt and Mitch. His special friends Jim and Marcia Tomlin and the entire Hunter family meant a great deal to him as well as numerous other cousins, family and friends.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his adoring wife, Cara Lou, and his parents, George and Marie.

He was a cherished husband, dad, grandpa, papa, sweetie and friend. LeRoy will be greatly missed by all of those who had the good fortune to know him.
