| August 7, 2018 4:00 AM

Dean Morigeau, 76, of Libby passed away on July 30, 2018 at Kalispell Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 16, 1942 in Helena. He was raised and attended elementary and middle school in Ronan. He attended Libby High School, where he graduated in 1960. After high school, Dean attended Carroll College in Helena on a basketball scholarship where he played as their starting forward/guard for four years. He was inducted into the Carroll College Basketball Hall of Fame in 1982, along with his high school basketball coach, Bill Racicot. After graduating from Carroll in 1965, Dean enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Dean went to Army Basic and Army Infantry Training at Fort Ord, California. After graduating jump school in Fort Benning, Georgia, he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne, 5th Special Forces Group, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. While in 5th SFG, Dean would complete several combat and reconnaissance tours in Vietnam and Cambodia between 1965 and 1971.

After the Army, Dean attended Santa Clara University School of Law, graduating with his Juris Doctor in 1972. After passing the California State Bar, he would spend more than 30 years as a maritime lawyer for Morigeau Maritime and American President Lines.

He leaves behind his wife, Corliss (Corky) Nelson of Libby, and his son, David Morigeau of Salem, Oregon.

Dean was loved by his family. He definitely got an extended family when he moved to Libby with Corky’s 10 children, 30 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. They kept his life very busy and entertaining. He had an unforgettable spirit. His strong and warm personality, as well as his jokes, will be missed greatly by those that knew him. He will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace.

Arrangements are by Schnackenberg Funeral Home in Libby. A remembrance gathering will be held later in the fall. The announcement will be published in the paper.
