David Murphy
David Murphy, 77, took his final breath surrounded by family on Saturday, July 28, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. David was born Aug. 1, 1940, to Lester and Helen Murphy in Leavenworth, Washington, the oldest of five children. He graduated in 1958 from Foster High School in Seattle, Washington.
After serving his country in the Air Force, David met his wife, Marjorie Olk, and they were married in 1963. David continue his service to his country as a civilian with the Navy in Seattle. When he retired in 2000, David and Marjorie moved and made their home in Libby.
David was very active in the Catholic Church his whole life. He loved playing the guitar with the choir and joined the Knights of Columbus. David enjoyed carpentry work and volunteered his time to the Habitat for Humanity. He was very skilled at building and fixing computers and helped many people in Libby when they had problems.
David had a great sense of humor and was smiling until his last day on earth. He was a great father not only to his own children but also to their friends. David taught all his children how to ride motorbikes and enjoyed golfing with his son.
David is survived by his wife Marjorie; son Pete Murphy of Kirkland, Washington; daughters Dawn Sonju of Libby, and Tabitha Holmes and Teresa Murphy of Belfair, Washington; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his sister.
A special thanks to all those people who helped care for David including the staff at Libby Care Center and Warm Springs State Hospital.
