The Lady Loggers were away at Frenchtown Friday and Saturday for a tournament in Frenchtown, where they took some heavy losses to Belgrade and Frenchtown, but overcame both Butte Central and Stevensville.

Libby’s game against the Lady Maroons Friday was a shutout for senior pitcher Khalyn Hageness, leading to an 11-0 victory.

Libby junior Jayden Winslow started the scoring off early in the game when her first inning home run batted in Hageness as well.

The score held at 2-0 Loggers through to the top of the third inning, where Winslow got her third RBI of the game with a single that sent junior Linsey Walker home for the last Lady Logger run of the inning, bringing the score to 8-0, Libby.

Both teams passed through the fifth inning in rapid succession, with both teams getting their third out with a runner on third.

In the sixth, Libby clinched the win with three more runs, with junior Bridgett Haskins scoring the final run of the game with a steal on Walker’s third strike.

A few hours later against Belgrade, the tables turned on Libby.

Though the first inning the Lady Loggers kept the score close, 4-2 Belgrade, the Lady Panthers were relentless, ending the second inning 5-2, and adding another eight runs in the third and four in the fourth.

Errors plagued the Libby defense early in the game, and Belgrade pitcher Erin Elgas held the Lady Loggers to only three hits in the final three innings.

In total, the Lady Loggers got 4 hits, while the Lady Panthers logged 12.

After a night’s rest, Libby faced Stevensville the next morning for some strong competition that went six innings.

Both teams played through the first inning without a run scored. In the top of the second, Libby sent the Lady Yellowjackets to the dugout after only four plays, returning to steal two runs — by freshman Bethany Thomas and senior Haylee Cannon — out from under them in the bottom of the inning.

From there on, the Lady Loggers held the lead, ending the fourth inning 8-3.

The Lady Yellowjackets attempted a rally in the fifth inning, adding four runs to their score, but despite holding Libby back in the bottom of the inning, they were unable to repeat their performance in the top of the sixth, and the Lady Loggers took their 8-7 win.

The tournament ended for Libby in a no-hit showdown with Frenchtown.

Lady Broncs pitcher Meg Delaney held the Lady loggers to no hits, no walks, and struck out 5.
