The Rotary Club of Kootenai Valley turns 50 this year, and at a May 12 party to celebrate the milestone the organization will honor local first responders.

“This will be an annual event to recognize these individuals and their service,” states a news release that calls out local volunteer fire and ambulance members, the Sheriff’s Office, local police departments and David Thompson Search and Rescue. “A main principle of Rotary is service above self and these people exemplify that idea. They will be the best of the best, voted on by their peers.”

The event starts 6:30 p.m. at Libby VFW Post No. 1548 at 114 W. 2nd St. Tickets are $15 and available at the Venture Inn and the Libby Area Chamber of Commerce.

A chuckwagon dinner of pulled-pork, brisket and salad will be available, and entertainment provided by Boulder Creek Bluegrass. A half-day jet boat fishing trip on the Kootenai River will be raffled for $10 per ticket.
