Annual poetry contest among April events

The Western News

All events are free and open to the public.

The 12th Annual Poetry Contest runs April 2 through April 27. Enter in one of three categories: junior (K-fifth grade), youth (sixth-12th grade) and adults. Entires are limited to 80 lines and can be of any theme. Submit two copies (one with contact information, one without) to any branch library. Meet judge Philip Burgess and the winners at the Poetry Extravaganza at 5 p.m. on May 9 at Aunt T’s Coffee Corner in Libby.

New “Grab-n-Go” selections are available at local branches. Grab-n-Go books are popular best sellers available on a first come, first serve basis. Up to two books can be checked out for two weeks, and cannot be renewed.

Preschool story time will be at the Libby library on Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m., the Troy library on Fridays at 11:15 a.m. and the Eureka library on Thursdays at 11:30 a.m.

Chess games will be every Saturday at the Troy library from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

April 4, 10:15 a.m.: Libby Friends of the Library meeting.

April 6, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Libby Friends of the Library Book Sale

April 21, 11 a.m.: Join us at the Libby library for “A Hot Drink and A Good Book,” our monthly book discussion. This month features “Between the World and Me,” by Ta-Nehisi Coates. This is the story of what it means to inhabit a black body and to find a way to live within it. Direct, eloquent and at times brutal, this is a must read. Copies are available at the library.

April 27: Amnesty Day: All items turned in that are less than 90 days overdue and in good condition will have fines waived.
