Roger D. Switzer

Roger D. Switzer, 85, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, died at the Hospice House of North Idaho Friday, Sept. 15, 2017. Roger spent his last days surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 15, 1932 in Libby to Earle and Waneta Woodruff Switzer. Raised and educated in Libby, Roger graduated from Libby High School with the class of 1950.

After working in the lumber industry for many years, he earned a degree in architectural engineering from the University of Montana. With his degree, Roger then worked for Bechtel in Palo Verde, Arizona until retirement.

He was a talented woodcarver, earning a multitude of ribbons at various local woodcarving conventions and shows. Huckleberry picking, hunting with a bow and arrow, fishing, and spending time with his wife Helga were his favorite pastimes.

Roger also enjoyed singing in German choir, and played the piano and the concertina as well.

Survivors include his wife and best friend, Helga, of Coeur d’Alene; brother Bruce Switzer of Libby; daughter Doris Dale and family of Monroe, Washington; daughter Lisa Holcomb and family of Rockville, Idaho; son Andree Gilmore and family of Murrieta, California; and numerous friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 at the Christ the King Lutheran Church at 1700 Pennsylvania Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
