UPDATE 11:20 p.m.: Headline was corrected to properly name the West Fork fire.
The incident management team that assumed command of the West Fork fire Tuesday will also manage the Moose Peak fire, which was reported at 4,993 acres in a fact sheet released Tuesday morning by the new team. The fire previously was managed as part of the Highway 200 Complex of fires located mostly in Sanders County.
The Moose Peak fire “is the one keeping me up at night,” Lincoln County Commissioner Mark Peck said at a Sunday morning meeting of local and county officials. Part of his concern was that it was being managed outside Lincoln County; another part was that it was being left unstaffed due to a lack of resources, which were being directed to the other fires in the complex.
The Tuesday morning fact sheet listed three personnel assigned to the fire.
“(Tuesday), firefighters will be scouting each division of the fire looking for areas where direct line construction will be appropriate,” the fact sheet states.
As a result of the Moose Peak fire, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has served pre-evacuation notices for homes north of 6220 McGinnis Meadows Rd. and ordered evacuations for homes south of 6220 McGinnis Meadows Rd.
