Boys behind Monday morning bomb threat at Troy school, Sheriff says

Authorities believe young boys are behind a bomb threat Monday morning that cleared W.F. Morrison Elementary in Troy.

Lincoln County Sheriff Roby Bowe said the bomb threat was recorded in a voicemail left at the school secretary’s phone number over the weekend. He said the message was reported to authorities about 8 a.m. Monday.

“We were able to track down some juvenile males that are definitely suspects,” he said.

When asked how they tracked down the suspects, he said it was “just some good investigation” work.

The Troy Police Department, Troy Volunteer Fire Department and Troy Volunteer Ambulance responded in addition to the Sheriff’s Office, Bowe said.

Troy Public Schools Superintendent Jacob Francom said students were allowed back into the school shortly before 10 a.m.

Francom gave “a big thanks to police for jumping right on it and taking care of things” and praise “to all of our staff for following through and dealing with this type of a threat.”

Bowe said the Sheriff’s Office will leave any punishment up to the Troy Police Department and Juvenile Probation.

“They’re pretty young so I don’t know what they’re going to be facing,” Bowe said.
