With Troy Mayor Darren Coldwell’s term ending in November, Lincoln County is accepting applications for his replacement. The deadline to apply is June 19.

Two Troy City Council positions are also up for grabs as the terms of council members Dallas Carr and Kimberly Rowse come to an end. It is not yet known if Carr or Rowse will run for reelection; meanwhile, people who have been residents of Troy for six months or longer are encouraged to apply.

“I would like to see someone with fresh perspective in the role (of mayor),” Coldwell said. “And as well as the city is working right now...I hope to see it continue.”

During his term, Coldwell sought grants to improve city parks and worked with local nonprofits and volunteers to help finance city projects. His last big project as mayor will be installing campsites and a shower block for long-distance cyclists in parkland next to the Troy Museum and Visitor’s Center.

Anyone interested in running for mayor must fill out a declaration for nomination and oath of candidacy form, which can be picked up at the Lincoln County Courthouse in Libby or at Troy City Hall. Mayoral candidates must have lived for at least two years within city limits.

The position is a voluntary one, and there is no charge to run. Coldwell said the position could require as few as one to two hours a week, adding “If you want to make an effort and apply for grants and that kind of thing, it’s more like 15 hours a week.”

In the previous mayoral election, candidates were required to gather signatures of registered voters on a petition prior to running. That requirement has since been abolished.
